Stellantis is cutting a single shift at the Detroit Assembly Mack plant exactly where the Jeep Grand Cherokee is constructed not due to the fact of a lack of demand but rather due to emissions regulations in California.

The manufacturer has revealed that the Mack website will drop from 3 shifts to two shifts “temporarily.” It is not but identified how several fewer Grand Cherokee models will be created due to the alter nor how the alter will influence the four,600 personnel who perform at the website.

In a statement issued to Reuters, Stellantis mentioned the production alter was becoming created “in part because of the need to manage sales of the vehicles they produce to comply with California emissions regulations that are measured on a state-by-state basis.”

Stellantis has also “at times” restricted the sale of plug-in EVs to states adopting California guidelines and only shipped cars ordered straight by consumers to some other states.

This is not the only production alter that Stellantis is producing. It has been confirmed that the Jeep Wrangler production plant in Toledo, Ohio will move from an option perform schedule to a two-shift operation. It has confirmed this alter will lead to job cuts and is warning much more than three,600 personnel of achievable job impacts.
