Car thefts are on the rise, top some to resort to desperate measures. In Memphis, Tennessee, a single dealership is going as far as providing a no-inquiries-asked money reward for the protected return of its stolen home.

Not just any autos, the two vehicles in query are each seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvettes. City Auto of Memphis announced that it will supply $ten,000 per car for info that leads to the return of the Corvettes.

“It is with great frustration that as a private business, we must take this action to address the rampant crime happening across our community,” Stan Norton, City Auto’s president, told ABC24 News. “Thefts like this impact the livelihood and safety of our employees. We are asking for the community to stand up.”

City Auto of Memphis is not alone in losing autos. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reports that in the 1st half of 2023, almost 500,000 autos have been reported as stolen across the nation. That’s almost a record, and coincides with increasing thefts of Kia and Hyundai autos.

According to NICB information, California, Texas, Florida, Washington, and Illinois have been the states with the most reports of stolen autos. Interestingly, 3 of these states saw their numbers fall moderately. However, in Texas, thefts rose by 9 %, and in Illinois, they rose by a staggering 38 % in the 1st half of 2023.
